1901 1Col Olive bister and black on cover
Amazingly, the Mayer collection contains the third of the three recorded examples of this stamp on cover. This being a 1904 registered usage to Athens, Greece. With additional 1c, 4c, 6c and 50c values from the series also tied by target cancels. Usual registry markings and transit postmarks, cover with some staining, fine appearance; not only is the 1Col value rare, but this is also one of only three covers known bearing the 50c, combining that with the five color franking and scarce destination make this quite desirable.
Selling price: $2,000
